Music for the Highveld

Welcome to our Web site

"Music for the Highveld" has been created to support the Highveld Diocese in tackling the AIDs epidemic in South Africa.

A number of musicians and artists have come together to put together recitals and recordings to raise money for this work.

The musicians come from all over the world but the recitals usually take place in Guildford, Surrey, in the United Kingdom.

The Guildford United Reformed Church Music Society and the parish of Holy Trinity and St Mary have supported the project in a number of ways.

We use the value-creating power of music and art through contemporary media channels to raise funds for social needs in the developing world.

Important updates to the site

The Race Against Time

"The Race Against Time" web-site has just been revamped. The cycle ride, from Land's End to John O'Groats in 5 days, will happen for the third year running in June. The Race raises funds for HIV/AIDS work in South Africa, particularly work with orphans and vulnerable children. It is endorsed by news reader, Jon Snow. Find out about this new cycling-endurance challenge at www.theraceagainsttime.com

Lullabies Talking Heads

We have video-interviewed the musicians & those involved in the Lullabies programme at St-Martin-in-the-Fields. Click here to see the Talking Heads.

The aim is to keep costs as low as possible while maintaining a reasonable standard of artistic achievement and pricing levels.

In that way a moderate level of sales can raise significant amounts of money. You can help support this work by ordering a CD through this site.

Around 90% of the price you pay for the CD will go directly to the front line in the fight against AIDS and HIV in South Africa - the administrative overhead is kept to the absolute minimum.

In addition you will gain access to a slice of contemporary music-making which brings together many different strands and traditions.

If you want to hear samples of the CDs via this web-site, click here. You can also listen to video interviews of some of the people involved.

If you live in the South East of England think about coming to the next recital.

HIV/AIDS Support

Dealing with the HIV/AIDS situation has two important priorities. Each year a new generation of young people reaches sexual maturity and need to learn how to protect their health and their future in a high risk environment. But as the existing level of infection slowly but inevitably progresses not only do more adults need care but the population of AIDS orphans grows at an alarming rate. Tsepho-Hope Centre and Kwase-Kwaza Womens’ Project are running a range of projects for HIV/AIDS support.
